How CORA works
CORA follows bills from the day they are filed to the day they become law. Every step is explained in plain language.
Where the data comes from
Bill text, sponsors, votes, and status all come from LegiScan, which tracks legislatures across the country. We refresh it every day, so what you see here matches the official record. We never edit the official text.
How a bill becomes law
A bill is filed by a sponsor. It goes to a committee, where most bills quietly stop. If it survives, the full chamber votes. Then it repeats the whole journey in the second chamber. If both chambers pass the same wording, it goes to the governor or president to sign or veto.
How we write the summaries
Each bill gets a plain-language summary written by AI from the official text. It is held to a 9th-grade reading level and short sentences. It tells you what the bill does and who it affects. It also covers what changes if it passes or fails. It is a starting point, not a replacement for the official text.
What you can do
Follow a bill and we will email you when it moves. Look up who represents you and contact them directly. Offices count messages from the people they represent, so yours carries weight.
What CORA covers
CORA covers Texas and the U.S. Congress at launch — more states are coming.
